“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” – Robert H. Schuller
This speaks right to my current situation. I’m not sure if you are reading this and are already a member of my Email Community, but I have been sharing a bit about the struggles I’ve had recently that have basically left me emotionally empty. It’s this really where “Welcome The Light” came from.
It’s so much easier, I think, to let our hurts envelop us and keep us trapped. As a creative, I’m an emotional guy. I’d even take that one step further – everything I say, everything I do, everything I am evolves around emotion and feelings rather than a logical thought process. It’s how I’m wired. It’s why this speaks to me so much – the hurt for me is such a real force in my life because it’s more about the emotion that resulted rather than the incident that happened which caused the hurt.
But living in this space only leads us to a dark place. For me as a songwriter and a creative, this is often times the place from where my art is born. While that is a positive, living here for the long-term is destructive.
It is a lot harder to let hope shape our future. Hope is also an emotion, but rather than being founded in fact, it’s founded in uncertainty. Hope requires effort and an exercise of the mind and the will in order for it to be allowed to become the emotion that drives us forward and takes us into the light.
So what do you think today? Are you ready to Welcome The Light?
