A Laugh – Always The Best Medicine

Laugh with her

“In this world, a good time to laugh is any time you can. ” – Linda Ellerbee

Somehow right now I think this quote is so relevant. What a year 2020 has been with no end in sight. It’s almost hard to find anything to laugh about. However, if that is all we focus on, then the thought of waking up each day will immobilize us. And the thought of the future will terrify us.

We were talking about this the other day with friends. I said that it is times like these that make me thankful I get to wake up next to Teri each day. That’s all I need.

I don’t say that to pat myself on the back. My point is that looking for the things we are thankful for is what gets us through these times. That and a lot of laughing – at each other, at the little things, even at the big things.

And we do a lot of laughing. Teri has this really infectious laugh. It comes from deep within and fills a room. When you hear it, it just lightens your spirit and makes you want to chime in with laughter. I think that’s one of her best attributes because hearing her laugh can change my mood instantly.

The thing is, when you begin to start looking for all of the things you can be grateful for, it opens your eyes to all of the moments that can make you laugh. Somehow that exercise takes the focus off of all the uncertainty and all of the things that can cause anxiety and opens your eyes to the possibilities.

Of course, for me, my faith is a huge component of how I view the future. Yes, I have to do the daily exercise of having that attitude of gratitude. But if I didn’t think that ultimately God was in control of my future, then I am not sure I would have the fortitude to continue.

Music is my outlet for all of this – for the good times and the hard times. It’s the vehicle I use to express all of the things inside, to share experiences I hope will help others through their hard times.
